WHY THIS, WHY NOW

One programme supporting the pressures schools are already trying to solve.

Becoming One Safe Adult does not replace specialist systems. It strengthens the everyday practice around them, before every difficulty becomes an absence, escalation or referral.

ATTENDANCE

Strengthen connection and belonging.

Help staff understand attendance through relationships, safety and participation alongside existing attendance responsibilities.

SEND & INCLUSION

Build a stronger universal offer.

Give the wider staff team practical ways to notice needs, reduce relational barriers and respond more consistently.

SAFEGUARDING

Make approachability part of everyday practice.

Help more adults understand how children experience safety and what makes seeking help feel possible.

STAFF WELLBEING

Support the adults carrying the work.

Provide practical tools for reflection, emotional load, professional boundaries and appropriate peer support.

THE CHANGE YOU ARE BUYING

From individual good intentions to shared whole-school practice.

FROM

Different adults responding in very different ways

TO

A shared relational language and greater consistency

FROM

Specialist teams carrying concerns after escalation

TO

More adults equipped to notice and respond earlier

FROM

Wellbeing support sitting outside everyday practice

THE LEARNING JOURNEY

Five connected chapters.
One shared foundation.

1

Becoming One Safe Adult

The foundations of safe-adult relationships and the patterns through which children experience consistency, approachability and connection.

2

Understanding Trauma in the Classroom

How stress and adversity can influence relationships, learning and everyday school interactions.

3

The Real Impact of Trauma

Looking beyond what is immediately visible and considering what may sit beneath a child’s presentation.

4

Rethinking Attendance

Exploring attendance through relationships, belonging, safety and participation, alongside existing systems and responsibilities.

5

Carrying Less

Helping staff reflect, maintain professional boundaries and manage the emotional demands of relational work.

DESIGNED TO LAST BEYOND COMPLETION

Not delivered once and forgotten.

Twelve months’ access gives schools time to introduce the learning properly, include colleagues who miss a training day, support new starters and revisit key ideas.

Leaders can use the accompanying resources to continue professional conversations and connect the programme with existing attendance, inclusion, behaviour, safeguarding and wellbeing priorities.

1

Introduce

Set the purpose and create a shared starting point.

2

Learn flexibly

Staff complete five focused chapters around school commitments.

Considering the programme within your inclusion strategy?

INCLUSIVE MAINSTREAM FUND

DfE guidance includes specified training costs and evidence-based professional development among examples of how schools may use their allocation.

Funding is not automatic. Schools and trusts should check their allocation, grant conditions and whether the programme fits their evidence-led inclusion strategy before purchasing.

CLEAR SCOPE

What the programme is and what it is not.

It is

Whole-school, practical, relationship-centred, evidence-informed and designed for the realities of school life.

It is not

A replacement for safeguarding, SEND provision, attendance systems or specialist training. It is not clinical training or a one-off motivational INSET.
