Built from what Jodie saw children and the adults supporting them needed.
One Safe Adult was founded by Jodie Peters after 20 years working with children, young people and the adults around them across education, residential care and as a manager in children’s services.
It did not begin as a training product. It began with a pattern that was becoming impossible to ignore.

WHY ONE SAFE ADULT EXISTS
Children were struggling to attend, access lessons and stay connected to school.
Jodie saw increasing numbers of children struggling to attend school regularly, unable to attend lessons and presenting behaviours that challenged the adults who were there to teach and support them.
She set up and managed an alternative provision within a mainstream school, working closely with children for whom the usual school experience was no longer working.
Within that provision, Jodie consistently saw that when relationships became safer, stronger and more reliable, children’s engagement, attendance, safeguarding and attainment improved.
She also saw what this work demanded of staff. Teachers and support colleagues were managing complexity, repeated disruption and emotional pressure while trying to keep children learning. Relational practice had to support the adults delivering it as well as the children experiencing it.
Relationships were not an alternative to attendance, safeguarding or attainment. They helped make progress possible.

Jodie’s work has crossed the boundaries where children’s needs are often divided between education, behaviour, care and safeguarding.
EDUCATION
Classroom, inclusion and alternative provision
Experience spanning support roles, classroom teaching, behaviour and inclusion, leadership and governance, including setting up and managing an alternative provision within a mainstream school.
CHILDREN’S SERVICES
Residential care and children's services leadership
Experience in children’s homes and as a manager in children’s services, with insight into complexity beyond the school gate.
YOUNG PEOPLE
Child development
Long-standing youth work and direct practice with children across educational and community settings.
PROFESSIONAL FOUNDATIONS
Study spanning psychology, mental health, education and behaviour.
Jodie’s academic and professional study includes psychology, mental health and wellbeing in education, and behaviour and culture leadership.
That combination shapes an approach that looks beyond isolated behaviour without losing sight of boundaries, accountability or the realities of school life.

FROM EXPERIENCE TO A SHARED APPROACH
Make safer relationships more intentional and less dependent on chance.
Jodie created One Safe Adult to give schools practical professional learning, a shared practice architecture and tools that support both children and the adults working with them.
The aim is not to turn staff into therapists or add another initiative around the edges of school life. It is to strengthen the everyday practice already happening across the school.
